Station Improvements

Postby todsr1 on Wed Jan 07, 2009 8:26 pm

There's talk on and off about putting lifts in at Earlsfield station - anyone got any idea when the current plan is for when this might happen and where on earth they might go.... I can't think of any obvious place!?

PAYG Oyster is the other big things we need at the station - and somewhere to buy Oyster tickets that doesn't charge a fee for the pleasure. Does anyone know if such a place exists? I can't imagine that the fee is mandatory; I have managed to talk the newsagent further south down Garratt Lane than Foodways into decreasing the size of the fee on occasion....

Not sure about the lifts situation although I hear Mark Clarke (Tory Candidate) has been pushing for them to be installed.

I think you always have to pay a deposit to get an oyster card these days. My understanding is that it's refundable should you ever wish to give up the card...

It's not the deposit on the Oyster card, I've had the same one for years. It's a 'processing fee'... same kind of thing they try and impose on you when you spend less than some minimum amount on a card.

I don't think the one near the Puzzle pub charges a fee for topping up your Oyster Card. Its a little newsagents opposite the old school.
Although I might be wrong.

I don't think Foodways charges for PAYG top-up. If they do they were very quiet about it when I got it there last week. Maybe it was down to the chap serving me. Maybe an idea to go for the one that looks new and doesn't know about any "processing fees" yet...

I've heard that they are going to put in one lift by the end of 2010. Better than nothing I guess. I can't say I travel much by train with the kids as it's too much of a risk to expect that someone will help you up and down the stairs with the buggy.

Would love to use the bus more too, but the number of times I've waited for a bus only to find it already has someone on with a buggy and they won't let you on. Gave up after the 5th bus the other day...

You can get the Oyster card to top up automatically, if you register it online and set an amount to top it up each time it drops below a certain amount - saves a lot of time! Mine automatically does this on the local bus routes, as we are still awaiting the PAYG Oyster at Earlsfield! Balham and Wandsworth Common are now PAYG and our local MP, Sadiq Khan is campaigning for it, so hopefully it shouldn't be too long!

Earlsfield Station improvements under way on the Waterloo bound platform. Anyone know if it is an extension of the undercover area?
